With My “Gold Card” I’m Officially OLD!

This makes me officially an old person “Adultos Mejor” as stamped on my file.

But what is really nice is I now ride the bus for free and get in all national parks free and other benefits I haven’t even learned about yet! Plus I get to wait in the shorter lines at bank and other places plus it is just nice to live where there is a sincere or genuine respect given to older people.

And don’t forget to check out my newest book, My First 50 Butterflies in Costa Rica:

  1. We have been looking to apply for a gold card, but can’t find a place to apply. Can you assist with providing a location or link?

    Thank you!

  2. Angela,

Sure! But you don’t need it. I got mine at our Social Security office here in Atenas at the same time I was finishing paperwork there for my ID or Residential Card and the monthly payments for social security healthcare benefits and I had to wait a couple or more months before it was ready and now I never use it.

The only thing they want to see at bus stations or national parks or for the shorter line at the bank is your residential card that has your birthdate on it. The buses here in Atenas have an electronic reader that they stick my ID card in for my free ride to Alajuela or discounted ride to San Jose. And national parks want the ID card. I used to pull out both but no one pays any attention to the Gold Card. 🙂 I thought it would work like the Senior Pass for National Parks in the states, but no. I keep it in my wallet just in case, but never needed. 🙂

    ¡Pura vida!
