Another new species for me! Wind’s Skipper or Windia windi (scientific name). To be a year with much fewer butterflies in my garden, I continue to find new species which is kind of amazing to me! And this one has a kind of interesting pattern for a Skipper with pleasing blends of oranges, browns and whites. It is kind of small but bigger than those fingernail sized guys! 🙂 Here’s four shots from different angles. You will find more shots in my Wind’s Skipper gallery in the bigger family gallery of Skippers.
And though not much on the internet, here’s links to:
- Butterfliesandmoths dot org (mine are the only live photos here)
- Butterflies of America – more but mostly older & pinned specimens
- iNaturalist – Ecuador with multiple photos that are a closer match to mine! Similar to GBIF photos below.
- Animal Diversity Web – just the taxonomy
- Wikispecies – just taxonomy but do include subfamily & tribe
- GBIF – (Journal of the Lepidopterists’ Society) – reporting 33 occurrences, 8 with photos. The most live photos of all!
¡Pura Vida!
Oh Charlie!
Thank you so much!!! I love his patterns, so intricate!
