Or it seems that I will do anything for one! 🙂 That is why I like going to the nature lodges where you can get closer to such colorful birds. Well, here are my step by step procedures for one of those many that come near my house (plus waiting for a blue sky!) 🙂 . . .
Step 1: Notice where he is flying and landing . . .

He’s in that tree circled in white above! Yeah, that tiny dark spot at the top is the bird. 🙂
Step 2: I can easily get his tree in full-frame . . .

But that is obviously not close enough to enlarge that dark spot at the top, which is the parrot! 🙂
Step 3: Try zooming in on the bird . . .

And below him is a Red-billed Pigeon that he regularly shares his tree perch with. 🙂
And this is as close as my 600mm lens will get from my garden. 🙂
Step 4: Crop that image to get closer to the bird!

This is pretty much the maximum crop for a semi-decent photo.
Step 5: Try to crop closer!

And this is really too much, as the photo is getting more grainy. Since the darn parrot won’t come to my garden, I do what I can for another local pix! 🙂 But hey! I do have better photos of this species in my gallery linked below and all from nature lodges and national parks! 🙂
And an explanation of this particular one’s name. “They” (whoever, wherever, decides bird names) have changed this bird’s name, like they have many over my years of birding. It has always been the “Red-lored Parrot” (linked to my GALLERY), and now the new “official” name is “Red-lored Amazon,” closer to the scientific name of Amazona autumnalis (linked to eBird). It appears that all of the tropical American parrots (Mexico through South America) are being called Amazons instead of parrots now. But I think they will always be parrots to me, but I’m sure they have a good, logical reason for the new name! 🙂
And there you have an example of how this retired old man keeps busy in Costa Rica! 🙂
¡Pura Vida!
P.S. – Big Rain Yesterday Afternoon!
And we always get a few showers in April, but that was a big thunderstorm that knocked our neighborhood electricity out for 2 or 3 hours! So I’m hoping it is the early beginning of Rainy Season! And if not, it is close! As May is almost here! 🙂
