Some of my favorite places are in the province that I live in and possibly my top two lodges, mainly because of the large number of bird species. As a person without a car I at first traveled to these places by public bus which is certainly the most economic way to travel. Often you must first travel to Alajuela or San Jose to get a direct bus to some of these small out-of-the-way places, but that is part of the adventure. And bus travel is an adventure! 🙂
I am not ranking the hotels on these pages, though the first two below are probably my top two favorites. I have earlier ranked the lodges by how many bird species I photographed there, two different times in my blog. The last time or most recent is at Ranking My Birding Lodges. And the number of birds has increased as I continue to visit these places, like since that article I’m up to 61 species at Maquenque in one visit rather than the 53 in that article! 🙂
