There are many reasons that I like the Caribbean side of Costa Rica and one of those is fewer tourists! More unspoiled nature than much of the Pacific Coast and no big developments or hotel chains, just locally owned hotels and lodges. I visit three basic areas, the South Caribbean from Limón south to Manzanillo, the Tortuguero National Park north of Limón, and what I call the Inland Caribbean Slope including Heredia Province and Sarapiqui area. Lodging for all three of these sub-areas are included below. And for you geography people, yes, technically part of Alajuela Province is on the Caribbean Slope, but I have included them in a different area for these reviews.
