Bosque del Cabo Lodge, Osa Peninsula

This is borderline expensive but well worth it. Just be aware that their private beach is a steep climb down the hill where the buildings are located with great views! I liked the “wildness” or being deep in a rainforest with lots of wildlife! Plus the gourmet food is fabulous and your private cabin is very nice and comfortable! There is a National Geographic lodge on the other side of highway with no beach access that costs twice as much as this place. It is a rainforest lodge with hiking & living in the forest the main activity. Perfect for the Naturalist of every stripe! See their website: Bosque del Cabo

Would I Return?

Yes!

Likes

  • Being deep in a rainforest with lots of wildlife to photograph.
  • First class cabins and gourmet food!

Dislikes

  • This was my first trip after cancer surgery and radiation treatment and I was not physically up to the climb down the hill to the beach.
  • Price is kind of high but well worth it! So not a true dislike.

Nature & Other Activities

  • This place is a paradise for the naturalist of any kind with a multitude of wildlife, plant life, and nature things to see and photograph.
  • Guided hikes available but also a good map for exploring on your own the many trails through the forest.
  • And pretty much any adventure activity you want. On their Activity Page use pull down menu to read details of each, including surfing, fishing, dolphin watching, waterfall rapelling, snorkeling, boat tours, kayaking, tree climbing with an expert, horseback riding, tree platform, and other tours including customized for what you want.

Getting There

  • To drive from Atenas it is 663 km or a 6 hour+ drive.
  • I Fly Sansa which is a 45 min flight from San Jose to Puerto Jimenez and then a short drive which the lodge will arrange in either their vehicles or a taxi. Flight is around a hundred dollars each direction, cheaper than driving.
  • Public buses go to Puerto Jimenez from anywhere and you take a taxi from there. Check https://thebusschedule.com/cr/
